Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Family Birthing Center (L&D, Mother/Baby) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Active RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, AWHONN Advanced EFM Must-Have: - Must have at least 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience; preference for 3 years in this setting. - Candidates must be comfortable with Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) at delivery. - Candidates with OR circulating experience are accepted. - Candidates only with postpartum experience are not accepted. Description: Unit has a total of 2 Labor and Delivery beds and 7 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) beds. There are 4-8 overflow postpartum beds and 1 operating room suite for C-sections. Approximately 70-80 births occur each month along with Non-Stress Tests (NST) for antepartum testing, averaging 60-70 per month. The nurse-patient ratio is 1:2 in labor, 1:1 during delivery, and 1:4 for Mother/Baby couplets. Common diagnoses include patients who are 35 weeks and above and may include twin deliveries. Preterm patients under 35 weeks are transferred to a higher level of care. There is no in-house pediatric coverage. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips, including Pitocin and occasionally insulin. A Charge Nurse or Nurse Shift Manager is present on every shift. Charge nurses preferably do not take a patient assignment unless required due to staffing needs. There are no certified nursing assistants or surgical technicians on this unit. One OB Technician is scheduled each shift. An obstetrician is present in-house 24/7. An anesthesia provider is not present continuously but is available on-call with a 20-minute response time. Respiratory therapists attend every delivery and assist in providing respiratory support and managing equipment as needed. Equipment includes ventilators, CPAP, and bubble CPAP machines. There are no Telemetry/Monitor Technicians on this unit. Registered Nurses are required to take Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. If a patient receives general anesthesia, recovery takes place in the Main PACU. Weekend requirements include 2 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule. Holiday shifts rotate with core staff. There may be a call or standby requirement on scheduled shifts with the expectation to present within 30 minutes of call back. Floating to other facilities may occur, although mid-shift floats are rare. The scheduling is done 4 weeks in advance. The hospital retains the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment. Charting is conducted using a specified electronic health record system. BSN is not required. This role is in an acute care setting. The shift notes indicate 12-hour night availability, with every other weekend and first to float responsibilities. Required certifications include ACLS, Advanced Fetal Monitoring, BLS, and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
