(United States of America) This is a Stanford Health Care job. A
Brief Overview The Occupational Therapist IV, Clinical Specialist
is a senior therapist who is fully competent with OT I, II, and III
job duties and has a broad clinical skill set across a variety of
patient types, ages and diagnoses utilizing and applying innovative
and advanced skills and techniques to solve patient care needs in
an accurate and efficient manner. The Occupational Therapist IV
functions independently and serves as a content expert in
particular population(s)/service line(s). The OT IV may be granted
administrative time to develop new and modified pathways, processes
and interventions in their particular focus area(s), including
researching any new/proposed initiatives, understanding the impact
on rehab practices, and ensuring rehab staff are aware of, educated
on, and aligned with any new process. The OT IV uses electronic and
face to face communication including Clinical Alerts, classroom
education sessions, and/or arranging for internal/external content
experts to provide education to rehab staff to ensure knowledge is
obtained by front line staff. Locations Stanford Health Care What
you will do Must meet and be proficient in performing all of the
essential functions of Occupational Therapy I, II, and III with a
more diverse and highly complex patient population as well as the
following: Leads patient care conferences, communicating with and
teaching other care providers. Leads Team or Discipline meetings
Makes recommendations for the development of departmental policies
and procedures; leads new program development, for example by
developing treatment protocols for new patient populations.
Develops content for clinical teaching, including the clinical
instruction of interns/students, residents, and other staff;
prepares and presents at least 3 in-services per year Assists in
re-evaluating care delivery/programs and completes assignments in
the departmental plan to improve services. Participates in research
or new program development, for example by developing treatment
protocols for new patient populations. Is aligned with and fully
supports departmental and organizational principles, goals and
objectives Functions as CI for Occupational Therapy students as
needed Regular participation as Faculty or Mentor Advanced Training
Program Serves as a primary orientation resource as needed
Maintains content expertise in focus area, interfacing with
unit/service line staff and leadership to keep abreast of policy,
practice, protocol, and/or equipment changes Assesses the needs of
service line/patient population, then assesses the educational
needs of the staff and serves as a resource in meeting those needs.
Acts as a liaison to the Specialty Unit/Service Line staff to which
they are assigned Functions as Rehab Department’s representative at
Specialty Quality Meetings or Process Improvement Initiatives
Education Qualifications Masters or Doctorate degree required.
Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy curriculum required.
Experience Qualifications At least five (5) years clinical practice
as an Occupational Therapist. One certification under the category
of AOTA board certification, CA Advanced Practice, or others to be
determined on a case by case basis. Has lead Department or
Interdisciplinary Program/Initiative or Process Improvement
Project. Possesses and maintains substantial content expertise in
the service/unit/population for his/her specialty. Successfully
completes a Stanford Leadership Development course within the first
12 months of hire. Completes at least 50% of required annual
continuing education hours in area of specialty. Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge and adherence to Code of
Ethics and performance standards specific to the clinicians
professional organization. Knowledge of available equipment and
vendors used in assigned area. Knowledge of basic business aspects
of position, such as utilization management, charging practices and
regulatory practice compliance. Knowledge of evaluation and
treatment methodologies as applied to routine patient care.
Knowledge of legal issues affecting the clinical practice.
Knowledge of pathologies and injuries which result in physical,
cognitive, and other functional impairments. Knowledge of
principles, methods, equipment and theory of the practice of
clinical specialty. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally
and in writing, clearly, concisely and effectively with patients,
families, co-workers, visitors, supervisors and other health
professionals. Ability to develop and document clearly and
accurately treatment goals that are realistic, measurable,
appropriate, functionally based and that include patient/family
input. Ability to develop, implement and adapt treatment programs.
Ability to evaluate patients and interpret clinical data and make
clinical judgments in clinically complex situations. Ability to
develop, implement and adapt treatment programs to changing
clinical status. Ability to provide appropriate care and progress
treatment based on professional standards of practice, and on the
needs of the specific individual, including age and developmental
considerations, cultural and psychosocial issues, precautions and
medical condition. Ability to utilize sound clinical reasoning to
determine appropriate patient interventions; demonstrates good
safety awareness, judgment and problem analysis and resolution.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with
others. Ability to clinically supervise, train and evaluate
students/interns/residents/fellows. Ability to apply advanced
clinical skills in treating difficult and complex cases. Ability to
drive the advancement of care in specialty area through research,
collaboration with medical teams, presentations and continued
education activities. Ability to translate knowledge into clinical
practice. Ability to represent the Rehab Department in
cross-functional improvement initiatives. Licenses and
Certifications BLS - Basic Life Support and OTR - Reg Occup

requirements. Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $66.52 - $88.14
per hour The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be
set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to,
internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
