HOW MIGHT YOU DEFY IMAGINATION?
You've earned your degree. How will you use that achievement to
reach your goals? Do more with the knowledge you've worked hard to
acquire and the passion you already have. At Amgen, our shared
mission-to serve patients-drives all that we do. It is key to our
becoming one of the world's leading biotechnology companies,
reaching over 10 million patients worldwide. Become the
professional you are meant to be in this meaningful role.
Senior Associate Scientist - Protein Expression and Cell
What you will do
Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role you
will be responsible for hands-on cell line generation, expression
optimization and protein production work using various mammalian
expression systems. Amgen's Therapeutic Discovery organization is
seeking a motivated and collaborative protein expression and cell
culture expert to join the Protein Technologies group at our Amgen
South San Francisco site. Protein Technologies group is responsible
for designing and producing key enabling recombinant proteins to
support early discovery programs and exploring cutting-edge novel
protein modalities. Scientific and technical expertise in transient
and stable protein expression platforms is required for this
Responsibilities include: understanding individual project
details by literature reading and by closely working with protein
design, molecular cloning, and protein purification groups,
expressing recombinant constructs using mammalian cell hosts,
carrying out cell biological characterization of transfected cells
using IF microscopy or flow cytometry, performing small (~1-L) to
mid-scale (~30-L) protein production runs using various platforms,
analyzing harvested culture media by SDS-PAGE, Western blotting,
Octet, etc. to determine secretory titer and protein product
quality, summarizing and reporting experimental results, resolving
protein expression challenges by cross-functional collaboration,
following data entry and record keeping requirements, contributing
to technology development initiatives through hands-on technical
What we expect of you
We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to
serve patients. The scientific professional we seek is a great
teammate with these qualifications.

Molecular Biology or a related subject area and 5 years of
scientific laboratory experience.
Master's Degree in a related subject area and 3 years of
Doctoral degree and a prior experience in recombinant protein
production using mammalian expression systems in biotech/pharma
A demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and
to work both independently and in cross-functional teams.
Solid hands-on experience in one or more of the following
* Cell line and cell phenotype engineering using 293 and CHO
cells. * Producing complex secretory molecules such as bi-specific
and multi-specific antibodies. * Robotic liquid handling (e.g.
TECAN) and high-throughput protein expression platform. * Operating
and maintaining bioreactors at 5-10L scale with disposable
Familiarity in the process of intracellular protein folding,
