Based in Genentech's South San Francisco Campus and reporting to
the Head of Workplace Strategy, the Workplace Strategy Partner
represents the Real Estate and Workplace Effectiveness (RE&WE)
organization as a primary contact and advisor to client groups for
developing creative solutions that use real estate to assist in
business challenges. This particular job supports the Genentech
Research and Early Development (gRED) group, an employee base of
~3000 employees and growing and the pipeline of initiatives
underway for gRED. Current collaboration with gRED team to
Investigating creative ways to utilize the 1.3M SF of lab and
Identifying new lab and office space.
Building a new lab and office facilities on campus.
Renovation of our existing lab facilities.
- Establishing business continuity for the supply chain via our
on campus warehousing facilities.
To deliver the best solutions the Workplace Strategy Partner
will assure integration of services with RE&WE, Site Services
and other business partner functions. In partnership with gRED,
they will develop viable options for gRED to develop the most
effective short and long term space options with efficiency and
effectiveness in mind. This position will require a high degree of
customer engagement with excellent facilitation and negotiation
skills. Additionally, this position will assess, analyze and
evaluate space needs, its utilization and maintain occupancy campus
plans to support the RE&WE team's objectives. He/she must work
well in a collaborative team, have a seek-to-understand mindset,
and have proven ability to influence and drive change.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned program manager or strategic
consultant with experience leading cross-functional teams and
managing complex design & construction projects in a variety of lab
work environment types such as: vivarium, bio-containment,
research, pharmaceutical, public health, clinical, process and
Serves as an advisor to client's senior management on
significant planning activities (up to approximately 3000 employees
within their client group).
Develops options and business case proposals for complex
problems requiring the regular use of ingenuity and innovation.
Bring forth both short term and long business objectives in
order that RE&WE will have a clear directive with scope,
criteria and expectations.
Participate in all real estate site selection activities as the
point of contact for gRED. Thus, knowing the User's strategy,
criteria, scope and expectations, along with providing iterative
modifications in a timely manner, will assure a proper real estate
resolution to support gRED's business.
Accountable for delivery of the diverse solutions for client
Deep understanding of client business and adjacency needs
Experience with the key work practices for an array of lab types
including chemistry, biology, instrument, and computational, and
their impact on projects and customers.
Forecast long-range space required to support client business
plans (approx. 1-3 years)
Inform campus plan for 3-10 years and identify business triggers
for change within gRED.
Lead the RE&WE gRED team, composed of the gRED Workplace
Integration partners, the Lab Workplace Partner and the Space
In partnership with the gRED Workplace Integration team, be
responsible for social, technology (socio-tech) and spatial
components of all office-based work environments for gRED; guiding
the business in adopting new types of spaces, technology and
behaviors to work more effectively in a mix of work settings.
In partnership with the gRED Research Principal Lab Planner,
collaborate on ways to provide a seamless experience as employees
go from lab to workplace environments and ensure key work practices
are enabled across campus.
Continuously researching, prototyping and evolving work
environments to support business transformations and anticipate the
needs of the business.
Provide guidance and manage the work activities for Space
Planners associated with their projects and clients
Evaluate client requests to ensure that space changes are in
alignment with gRED agreed upon long-term occupancy plans and
Supports all RE&WE initiatives and program development
Collaborate on gRED's locations within the campus plan with the
Head of Campus and Scenario Planning. With the Head of Campus and
Scenario Planning, review and approve of gRED office space blocking
plans for multi-campus or site level projects.
Develops and applies space policies and guidelines to client
requests and projects
Drive continuous enhancements in client service and contributes
the development of new processes
Maintain client scorecard, key metrics and, dashboards
Responsible for periodic progress client reviews on behalf of
entire RE&WE Team
Ensures that space and facilities requirements are planned and
executed on timelines needed to support the client
Leadership and accountability for all Real Estate and Workplace
Effectiveness solutions for gRED across campus. These projects
should align with gREDs business objectives and be integrated with
their lab spaces.
Leverage RE&WE Site Services partners, Design and
Construction, Site Operations, Environmental Health and Safety,
Security and Resilience and Workforce Services for subject matter
- Responsible for continuing development of OSIS visualization
tool with gRED and Site Services parties.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skill
12-15 years of experience in a related field
Extensive knowledge of space planning and delivery
Extensive experience in campus occupancy planning and the
ability to apply experience to unusually complex problems
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Facilities
Management, Business Administration or related field
Exceptional program management, project manager skills
Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation

Able to manage processes and relationships within a highly
