Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Chief Business Officer

The Opportunity:

The Director/Senior Director, New Product Planning and Pipeline Strategy will be the commercial and strategic lead on all portfolio products and significantly contribute to program and pipeline strategy and portfolio reviews. This person will be responsible for providing commercial and strategic analysis and guidance across our portfolio including key early and late-stage product planning, market assessments, forecasts, market research, competitive positioning/intelligence and preferred product presentation. The individual will be the commercial representative on all core teams (pre-clinical and clinical programs) and collaborate with Program Leadership to support recommendations and present at governance meetings. This is a high-impact cross functional role with exposure to the company's Executive Leadership team.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate across all CytomX departments and functions to develop and enhance the value of our oncology portfolio, including positioning of early-stage programs for success as well as strategic planning for clinical phase assets
  • Develop disease area understanding, map competitive landscapes, identify unmet needs
  • Develop detailed short and long-term target product profiles to support our future products
  • As a core team member, provide commercial and strategic guidance to cross-functional teams to help drive key business and development decisions
  • Identify critical knowledge gaps in relevant disease areas and execute primary and/or secondary market research to address relevant needs
  • Develop global forecast and valuation models that accurately assess the market opportunity associated with pipeline candidates in different indications
  • Develop recommendations with clear justification and rationale for governance committee decision making
  • Contribute to pipeline strategy and decisions
  • Regularly develop and deliver presentations to Executive and Senior Leadership teams
  • Support Chief Business Officer on projects as necessary


  • BS/BA degree in business, life sciences, or related discipline. Advanced degree, e.g. MBA, MPH, PharmD, PhD strongly preferred.
  • Director level: At least 7-10 years of relevant commercial/product development, new product/market planning experience at consulting and/or biopharmaceutical companies
  • Senior Director level: At least 11+ years of relevant commercial/product development, new product /market planning experience at consulting and/or biopharmaceutical companies
  • Oncology product core team experience considered a strong plus

Professional Requirements:

  • Outstanding strategic, planning, and analytical skills
  • Ability to synthesize data and deliver a clear overview of commercial strategy, opportunity and risks to the Core, Management and Executive Teams
  • Direct experience leading primary and secondary market research
  • Strong understanding of the drug development process including strategic, operational, and financial aspects
  • Strong preference for firsthand experience with oncology therapies and biologics
  • Ability to clearly articulate recommendations based on multiple sources of information
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced work environment. Manage competing demands. Able to deal with frequent changes, foresee risks and proactively mitigate delays, or unexpected events with maturity and professionalism.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%
